How to apply Muscle Mint, and what to avoid.

Here is how to apply Muscle Mint, how much to use, and what to do if it stings. The full pack label is quoted in full further down the page, so you can check the exact wording yourself.

Getting started

How do I apply Muscle Mint?

Shake well, apply a generous layer where you want the cooling feel, and massage in until absorbed.

The cooling builds over the first minute or so, so give it a moment. Wash your hands afterwards, and keep them away from your eyes and face until you do.

Amount and frequency

How much should I use, and how often?

The label says to apply generously. It does not set a frequency, so we will not invent one here.

Most people find a routine works well, after a shower, after exercise, or before bed. If you want guidance for your own situation, a pharmacist can advise on how often to use it.

Where to avoid

Where should I not use it?

Avoid your eyes, nose and mucous membranes, as stated on the label.

We would also add broken or damaged skin, and skin that has just been shaved, both of which are more likely to sting.

If something goes wrong

What do I do if it stings, or gets in my eyes?

Rinse with cold water. Warm water spreads the menthol sensation rather than settling it.

Stop using Muscle Mint if skin irritation develops. If irritation continues after you have stopped, or an eye reaction does not settle, contact a pharmacist or your GP.

Before you use it

Who should be careful before using it?

Sensitive skin. Patch test on your inner forearm and wait 24 hours before applying more widely.

Children. The label's "keep out of reach of children" is a storage instruction, not a clearance to use the product on children. We do not set an age threshold here, ask a pharmacist first.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding. We are not able to advise on this. Please ask your midwife, pharmacist or GP.

Broken skin and existing skin conditions. Avoid applying Muscle Mint, and check with a pharmacist first.

Ingredients and allergens

What do the listed allergens mean?

Menthol, Limonene, Pinene and Linalool are naturally occurring components of the peppermint and eucalyptus oils in Muscle Mint. A small number of people are sensitised to them.

Limonene and Linalool carry a declaration requirement under UK and EU fragrance allergen rules, which is why all four are listed. Declaring them is a courtesy to those sensitised people, not a sign the product is hazardous.

Storage

How should I store it?

Keep Muscle Mint out of reach of children, as the label states. Store it somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight. Wipe the pump nozzle after use so it does not clog. Stored this way, the formula keeps its texture and scent.

The pack label

What is printed on the pack?

The label on your bottle is the accurate record for caution, instructions and ingredients. The caution, instructions and allergen wording below is reproduced exactly as printed, so you can check it yourself rather than take our summary of it.

An effective combination of natural oils in a gentle sunflower oil base. Peppermint and eucalyptus give a strong menthol cooling tingle and a fresh scent.
